Summer Hand and Foot Care – Complete Skin Care Guide

Summer Hand and Foot Care – How to Keep Skin Healthy and Well-Groomed

During summer, our hands and feet are much more exposed. Sandals, open shoes, walking barefoot, heat, sweat, seawater and swimming pool chlorine can all affect areas that are often almost forgotten during winter.

But proper hand and foot care in summer is about much more than polish, manicures or pedicures. The skin in these areas also needs hydration, sun protection, gentle cleansing and regular attention.

Healthy-Looking Skin in Summer – Hydration, Skin Care and Lightweight Makeup

During summer, more of our skin is exposed to the environment. Strong sun, humidity, air conditioning, sweat, seawater, swimming pool chlorine and friction from clothing can all affect both the appearance and comfort of the skin.

That is why maintaining healthy-looking skin in summer does not require an overly complicated routine. In fact, the warmer months are often the best time to simplify and focus on the essentials: gentle cleansing, proper hydration, sun protection and skin care products that suit your individual skin type.

Male Skin Care Products: The Essential Men's Skin Care Guide

Male Skin Care Products: What You Actually Need

A good skin care routine for men does not require ten different products, complicated steps, or half an hour in front of the bathroom mirror.

For most men, the essentials are surprisingly simple: a good face wash, moisturiser, sunscreen, and occasional exfoliation. Use the right products consistently and you can cover the basics of cleansing, hydration, sun protection, clogged pores, and post-shave care without turning skin care into a full-time hobby.

Here is what actually deserves a place in your routine.

Face Wash

Everything starts with cleansing.

One of the most common mistakes men make is washing their face with regular body soap or simply using whatever happens to be in the shower. Facial skin generally needs something gentler.

Harsh cleansers can leave the face feeling dry, tight, or uncomfortable and may disrupt the skin's protective barrier. That squeaky-clean feeling is not necessarily a sign that a product is working well.

For oily or combination skin, a lightweight gel cleanser is usually a good choice. If clogged pores, blackheads, or occasional breakouts are a concern, look for ingredients such as salicylic acid. It is an oil-soluble exfoliating ingredient that can help remove excess oil and dead skin cells from inside the pores.

For dry or sensitive skin, choose a gentle cream or low-foaming cleanser. Avoid formulas that leave your face feeling tight immediately after rinsing, and consider fragrance-free options if your skin reacts easily.

For most men, washing the face twice a day — morning and evening — is enough. Cleansing excessively can dry or irritate the skin without providing additional benefits.

And no, washing your face five times because it feels oily is not a skin care strategy. Your face is not a kitchen counter.

Moisturiser

Moisturiser is one of the most commonly skipped steps in men's skin care, yet it can make a noticeable difference in how the skin looks and feels.

Every skin type can benefit from hydration, including oily skin.

The trick is choosing the right texture.

For Oily and Combination Skin

Choose a lightweight gel or fluid moisturiser that absorbs quickly and does not leave a heavy residue.

A good lightweight formula should sit comfortably under sunscreen and provide hydration without making the skin feel greasy.

For Dry Skin

Look for a slightly richer lotion or cream containing ingredients that help support the skin barrier and reduce moisture loss.

Dry skin often needs more than simply washing less. Consistent moisturising can help improve softness, comfort, and overall texture.

For Sensitive Skin

Keep things simple.

Fragrance-free formulas with a relatively straightforward ingredient list are often the safest place to start. If your skin tends to sting, become red, or react to new products, introduce products gradually rather than changing your entire routine at once.

Apply moisturiser after cleansing, both morning and evening.

It takes less than a minute and may be one of the easiest upgrades you can make to a basic men's grooming routine.

Sunscreen

If there is one product men should stop ignoring, it is sunscreen.

UV exposure contributes to premature skin ageing, uneven pigmentation, sunspots, and skin damage over time. These effects accumulate gradually, which is why sun protection matters long before visible signs of ageing appear.

And darker skin tones still need sun protection. Natural melanin provides some protection from ultraviolet radiation, but it does not eliminate the damaging effects of UV exposure.

For everyday use, choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Higher-protection formulas such as SPF 50 can be especially useful during prolonged outdoor exposure or when the UV index is high.

Modern facial sunscreens are available in lightweight gels, fluids, lotions, and matte formulations, so there is little reason to settle for something that feels excessively thick or greasy.

Apply sunscreen every morning as the final step of your skin care routine.

Do not forget areas that are commonly missed, including:

  • The neck

  • The ears

  • The hairline

  • The sides of the face

  • Any exposed areas of the scalp

If you are spending extended periods outdoors, sweating heavily, swimming, or wiping your face frequently, sunscreen will need to be reapplied according to the product's directions.

Sun damage is cumulative. Five minutes spent protecting your skin today can make a much bigger difference years from now.

Face Scrub or Exfoliant

Exfoliation can be useful, but more is definitely not better.

Dead skin cells, excess oil, shaving, and everyday buildup can contribute to rough texture and clogged pores. Controlled exfoliation can help keep the skin smoother and clearer.

For many men, once or twice a week is plenty.

Traditional facial scrubs physically remove surface buildup, while chemical exfoliants use ingredients such as glycolic acid or salicylic acid to loosen dead skin cells.

If you regularly experience ingrown hairs or post-shave bumps, a carefully chosen chemical exfoliant may be particularly useful because it can help prevent dead skin from trapping hairs beneath the surface.

But timing matters.

Avoid aggressive exfoliation immediately before or after shaving. Shaving already removes some surface skin cells and can leave the skin temporarily more sensitive. Adding a strong scrub or acid treatment at the same time may result in unnecessary redness, burning, or irritation.

The Simple Men's Skin Care Routine

You do not need a bathroom cabinet that looks like a cosmetics laboratory.

A practical morning routine can be as simple as:

  1. Face wash

  2. Moisturiser

  3. Sunscreen

At night:

  1. Face wash

  2. Moisturiser

Then add an exfoliating product once or twice a week if your skin benefits from it.

That is enough for a solid basic routine.

More products do not automatically mean better skin. Consistency, suitable ingredients, and choosing products according to your skin type matter far more than the number of bottles sitting beside your sink.

Start simple. Give your skin time to adjust. Then add targeted products only when there is a genuine reason to use them.
